Evans Ogenyi has been officially announced as the new technical adviser of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) outfit Wikki Tourists, tasked with steering the club away from their recent run of poor form.
Ogenyi was formally unveiled by Wikki Tourists chairman Salmanu Abubakar on Friday during a ceremony held at the club’s secretariat in Bauchi. He officially inherits the reins from Abdu Maikaba, the former technical adviser, who elected to step down from his high-pressure role last month following a difficult spell.
Ogenyi arrives in Bauchi boasting an extensive resume within the Nigerian top flight. He previously sat in the dugout of four-time NPFL champions Kano Pillars, and held significant leadership roles at Lobi Stars. Additionally, he sharpened his tactical acumen at Rivers United, where he gained valuable insights while serving as an assistant coach.
The task ahead for the new man is formidable. Wikki Tourists have endured a gruelling period of turmoil, securing a meagre two victories in their last 15 league outings. The “Bauchi Elephants” currently find themselves languishing in 16th place on the NPFL log, having collected only 32 points from their 28 matches played so far this season.
