Little-known football administrator Nqobile Magwizi has been elected the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president in polls on Saturday, 25th January 2025.

The 45-year-old, who has held peripheral roles in local clubs and has managed football events, garnered 61 points, shrugging off competition from seasoned football administrators such as Twine Phiri, Philemon Machana and United Kingdom-based Marshall Gore.

Magwizi said his vision was “driving financial stability through innovative revenue streams and commercialization, investing in modern infrastructure to support players and communities alike.”

Magwizi was followed by Machana’s six votes, four for the former Caps United owner Phiri and one for Gore.

ZIFA was led by a FIFA-sanctioned normalisation committee with Lincoln Mutasa at the helm since 2022 when the world governing body banned the country’s FA over government interference in football matters.
