Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has advised compatriot Stanley Nwabali to make the best career choices as interest pours in for him at this stage of his career.

Nwabali, 28, has been in fine form for Betway Premiership side Chippa United and his heroics at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast has attracted a number of suitors including English side, Queen Park Rangers and Saudi Pro league club, Al Ettifaq.

There have several reports in South Africa linking the Super Eagle to giants Kaizer Chiefs. Notwithstanding the numerous interest by numerous clubs, former Chippa keeper Akpeyi has urged Nwabali to take the best career steps to safeguard his next move.

“You can have as much talent as you want, you can have so many clubs knocking on your door. But if you don’t work hard, then you are not prepared to take them [opportunities].

“Your career can take a wrong and a difficult direction if everything does not go down to working hard. I was at Chippa United for four years. And I worked hard for myself to get recognised and landed a move to Chiefs,” Akpeyi told FARPost.

“As a goalkeeper who wants to rise, you need to keep challenging yourself. You must accept that you can learn at any age. If you keep challenging yourself and you keep trying to get better, this is how you actually improve yourself.

“He [Nwabali] has done well for himself and the national team. I think he has already established himself well enough to make a move. But he has to make sure the time is right and that the club is also right. I think this is the only way to have a successful career and actually make the most of it.”

Stanley Nwabali has kept 21 times for Chippa United, conceding 15 times and keeping nine clean sheet in 24 games. They are 8th on the league table with 30 points after playing 24 league matches this season.
