After three successful seasons in Major League Soccer, Nigerian midfielder Obinna Nwobodo is set to stay for more years to come after agreeing a contract extension with current Eastern Conference leaders FC Cincinnati.

The 28-year-old has been struggling with injuries in the early stages of the 2025 season but his impact on FC Cincy has been impossible to deny. The midfield engine is well known for his high work rate and ability to win the ball in the center of the pitch but also has shown the strong technical ability needed to thrive in the high pace of play that characterizes Major League Soccer.

Since arriving from Turkish top flight club Göztepe in 2022, Cincinnati have gone from being a regular sight at the bottom of the table to one of the top contenders in the league. A regular sight in MLS Teams of the Week, Nwobodo is a big part of Cincinnati's revolution into a team that is looking to win trophies.

Nwobodo is continuing to recover from a hamstring injury but is making progress towards a return to the pitch. Cincinnati have a challenging fixture next up on Saturday when they travel to face interstate rivals Columbus Crew in the "Hell is Real" derby match.
