The Ugandan midfielder calmly converted from the penalty spot to score his first goal for Yanga, ending a run of ten matches without finding the back of the net since joining the reigning Tanzanian club champions.

Speaking after the match, Okello thanked the supporters, coaching staff and his teammates for standing by him during the period he was searching for his first goal.

“I give thanks to the fans, more so my fellow teammates and the technical team. They have been supporting me a lot and I am grateful for the three points. We keep going,” Okello said.

The former Kampala Capital City Authority FC playmaker also explained how he ended up taking the penalty despite not being the team’s designated taker on the day.

According to Okello, the responsibility initially belonged to Zimbabwean forward Prince Dube, but the striker allowed him the chance after he requested for it.

“The first penalty taker in that match was Prince Dube and when we got the penalty, I requested him to take it. I thank him for the opportunity and all the fellow players who supported me,” he added.

Okello’s strike contributed to a comfortable 3–0 win for Yanga, a result that keeps the Jangwani giants firmly at the top of the league standings with 32 points from 12 matches.
