Egypt forward Omar Marmoush discussed his goal for Manchester City and what propelled them to a 3-1 Carabao Cup win against Newcastle United at Etihad on Wednesday.
Marmoush seized his opportunity in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI with two goals as Man City advanced to advance to the Carabao Cup (League Cup) final with a 5-1 aggregate scoreline.
The Egyptian, who has been reduced to a bit role this season due to inconsistent form and the high level of competition in the squad, was not about to let his opportunity go to waste.

His first of the evening under the lights at the Etihad Stadium had an element of fortune as Dan Burn’s sliding tackle deflected off his foot and looped into the net. The second goal was a case of being in the right place at the right time to nod in from close-range following a slashed clearance from Kieran Trippier.
“Of course, I think the first goal was very lucky,” he said in an interview after the game as quoted by Man City website. “But the action before, I dragged the defender out, played a one two, my touch wasn’t the best but in the end the ball went in.
“I tried to make the runs always and be in the right place. And I’m very happy to score two goals and help the team reach a final.
“I wish I got the hat-trick today as well but I’m very happy to score the two goals. It gives us, the whole team, the confidence to win the game.
“We showed a very good mentality and we were very together as a team. From the first minute we were very focused on the job and I think we showed our mentality and passion in this game. We’re very happy to reach the final.”

On facing Arsenal in the final, he said: “It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world and we’re here to win trophies. We give our best every day to reach these finals and win silverware.
“Hopefully we can do it for all the new players and also the players already here. They showed us that every medal and every silverware is important.”
Man City will face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final on March 22 at Wembley Stadium. Marmoush now has four goals and 1 assist in 21 appearances across all competitions this season, with three of his goals coming in the League Cup.
