Onuachu took his goal-scoring prowess to new heights on Saturday, becoming the first player at the club to score in more than seven consecutive matches since Burak Yilmaz. His latest strike marks his 21st league goal of the season, keeping him as the leading goal scorer in the league.
In all competitions the Nigerian international has a goal scoring form of twelve goals in a ten-game stretch, which is also the first in the he Black Sea Storm’s history.
In all competitions he is on a magnificent run, scoring 12 goals in a 10-game stretch—a first in the history of The Black Sea Storm. The 31-year-old now has 23 goals across all competitions, including the Turkish Cup (Türkiye Kupası).
Prior to his difficult spell in the Premier League, Onuachu established himself as one of the most prolific strikers outside of Europe’s “top five” leagues. His career-best season came in 2020-21 with KRC Genk in Belgium, where he scored a staggering 33 league goals in 38 appearances, (plus 2 goals in the Belgian Cup), totaling 35 goals for the season.
He became the first player in the Belgian top flight to cross the 30-goal mark in the 21st century, winning the Belgian Golden Shoe and the Ebony Shoe (for the best African player in the league).
Onuachu had also been a consistent threat in Denmark with FC Midtjylland, where he routinely hit double figures. However, after a move to Southampton in January 2023, his form dipped significantly. He struggled to find the net in a struggling Saints side that was eventually relegated, leading many to wonder if his best days were behind him before his resurgence in Turkey.
This is Onuachu’s second stint with the club. His initial loan from Southampton during the 2023-24 season was a success, where he made an instant impact by scoring on his debut in a 3-0 win over Beşiktaş.
He finished that campaign with 15 league goals in just 25 appearances, including a spectacular hat-trick against Gaziantep FK. He accumulated 15 league goals and 2 cup goals in just 25 appearances across all competitions. Highlights included a spectacular hat-trick against Gaziantep FK and a memorable overhead kick.
Despite a mid-season injury and his departure for the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON), his scoring rate was so impressive that the club made his permanent signing a top priority.
After a brief return to Southampton in the summer of 2024, a permanent deal was struck in June 2025—a move that has clearly paid off given his record-breaking form this year.
