URA FC’s rising right back Justine Opiro is quickly making a name for himself after delivering back-to-back full-match performances that have underlined his potential and discipline.
In the absence of injured first-choice right back James Begisa, the young defender has been a reliable figure for the Tax Collectors in their recent Uganda Premier League games — the 1-1 home draw against Express FC and the goalless stalemate away to Lugazi FC.
His consistent displays and calmness under pressure have earned him praise from fans and coaches alike. His tireless work rate, defensive composure, and trademark long throw-ins have added a new dimension to URA’s play.
Opiro’s efforts were further recognised when he scooped the Man of the Match award against Lugazi FC, a moment he describes as both humbling and motivating.
“I’m grateful to the coaches for believing in me and giving me this opportunity,” Opiro said. “It’s not easy filling in for an experienced player like Begisa, but I believe in hard work, patience, and learning from every game. I also want to thank my teammates for their support — they make my job easier, and together we keep pushing for better results.”
Opiro says his recent recognition only fuels his desire to improve and help the team achieve its goals this season.
“Being named Man of the Match was a proud moment for me,” he added. “It reminded me that effort never goes unnoticed. My focus now is to keep giving my best, get more minutes, and help the team win through teamwork and determination.”
The promising right back will look to extend his impressive form when URA FC welcome UPDF FC this Wednesday at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, in Matchday Five of the Uganda Premier League as the team continues the hunt for their first win of the season.
