Orbit College coach Makhoye reflects on long-awaited Betway Premiership dream

Orbit College coach Pogiso Makhoye has reflected on his long-held ambition to see the club reach the Betway Premiership, a dream that has now become a reality.

Makhoye’s troops clinched their spot in the Premiership by defeating Cape Town City 1-0 at Olympia Park on Wednesday. Veteran striker Letsie Koapeng netted the decisive goal in front of a good crowd.

This triumph marks the return of a North West team to the Premiership for the first time since Platinum Stars’ relegation in 2018.

On the other hand, Cape Town City faces the bitter pill of relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. This season has been nothing short of a disaster for the Citizens, who, since their formation in 2016, had never before finished outside the top eight in the league.

Pogiso Makhoye emphasized his desire to establish a lasting legacy and celebrate this monumental achievement with the community.

“I wanted to create a legacy, I said one day we must promote this team to the NFD (Motsepe Foundation Championship) and take them to the Premiership,” he said on SuperSport TV.

Makhoye also showered praise on the people of the North West province after his side’s historic promotion to the South African elite league.

“I dedicate this to the people of the North West. We are like Moses, we have taken them from Egypt to the land of milk and honey. I am so proud of these boys.”

He added: “I feel very excited very emotional. We are not only doing this for Orbit College but we are doing this for the 152 colleges that are around the country. We wanted to show people that at TVET college there is talent and I’m happy we have delivered today to the people of North West.

“When we started this project 15 years ago and it was always a dream to make sure that one day we’ll have a professional football team in the North West and I think I have delivered. I wanted to leave legacy and legacy today was made…”
