South Africa’s Orbit FC’s coach Pogiso Makhoye anticipates a rough start to life in the Betway Premiership today, Saturday, when the rookies face AmaZulu FC on the road.
The coach for the newly-promoted team from the second-tier Motsepe Foundation Championship commented on the debut ahead of the game against Usuthu FC at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.
Makhoye is concerned that his players have been inactive since getting promotion via play-offs after stunning the now relegated Cape Town City FC in June 2025.
The coach insisted that he expects AmaZulu to hit the ground running as they had a run last weekend when they clashed against Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 quarterfinal.
“After their match last weekend, we expect AmaZulu to have match sharpness,” Makhoye told his club’s media.
“We have to go there and do what we usually do… Very difficult because we got only two weeks to prepare because we had to give players a rest.”
He added: “But we had to go through it because we didn’t win the league outright, so we knew we had to go through the playoffs, and then we knew those were the challenges that we had to go through. But the boys are coming all right because we’ve been together for the past four years, so it’s not like a new team.”
The only source of encouragement for Orbit, who are also called Mswenko Boys, is that they are unbeaten in 11 straight games, including seven in the league, from last season.
This will be the first-ever PSL meeting between AmaZulu and Orbit.
