Orlando Pirates appoint Abdeslam Ouaddou as new head coach

Orlando Pirates have officially announced former Marumo Gallants man Abdeslam Ouaddou as their new head coach for the upcoming 2025/26 season.

The ex-Gallants coach steps into the role previously held by Jose Riveiro, who departed to join Al Ahly after a successful three-year tenure with the Buccaneers.

Ouaddou is expected to arrive in South Africa later this week.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Abdeslam Ouaddou as the new Head Coach,” reads a statement released by the club on Monday.

The 46-year-old Moroccan coach brings a wealth of experience to the Pirates dugout as Ouaddou boasts an impressive playing career, having earned 68 caps for the Moroccan National Team while also competing in several top European leagues.

His extensive understanding of the game and strong leadership qualities are seen as key assets to guide the Buccaneers into a new chapter.

Coach Ouaddou will be supported by a familiar technical team, with Mandla Ncikazi and Rayaan Jacobs serving as his assistants. Helmi Gueldich and Tyron Damons will also remain part of the coaching staff.

The Soweto giants also confirmed that their pre-season preparations are set to commence on June 27.

As part of their rigorous build-up to the new campaign, Pirates will embark on their third consecutive international pre-season tour to Marbella, Spain.

The training camp, scheduled from July 8 to July 20, will feature high-profile friendly matches against European clubs including Bolton Wanderers (England), Pafos FC (Cyprus), Las Palmas (Spain), and Granada (Spain).
