Ex-Orlando Pirates coach joins Botswana’s Chiefs

Former Orlando Pirates Reserves coach Aubrey Vilakazi has secured a job in Botswana as a goalkeeper trainer for Mochudi Centre Chiefs FC.

In a statement, the FNB Premiership club says they hired the South African owing to his experience having also worked for other Premier Soccer League clubs, including AmaZulu FC.

“Coach Vilakazi joins us from South Africa with a strong professional background in elite football and development. He has previously served with the AmaZulu Football Club senior team, as well as the Orlando Pirates Football Club Reserves and Moroka Swallows Football Club Reserves, where he was instrumental in the development and progression of goalkeepers at a high competitive level,” reads the statement.

“His wealth of experience, technical expertise, and commitment to excellence will play a vital role in strengthening our goalkeeping department and supporting the Club’s long-term football objectives. We extend a warm welcome to Coach Vilakazi and wish him every success as he begins this new chapter with the Club.”

Vilakazi’s arrival at the team has coincided with the departure of head coach Pontsho Moloi.

Meanwhile, Mochudi Centre Chiefs have also hired a local Shagwa Mogwe as a Fitness, Strength and Conditioning Coach.

“His expertise in athletic development, conditioning, and player performance will be a valuable addition to our technical team as we continue to raise standards across all departments. We warmly welcome Coach Mogwe to the Club and look forward to his contribution to our continued growth and success,” adds the statement.

Mochudi Centre Chiefs lie in fifth place with 24 points, eight behind league leaders Gaborone United.

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Stanton Fredericks owns Mochudi Centre Chiefs FC through his consortium.

The former South African international recently signed a 15-year management contract with a sporting consortium which he leads. The consortium is called Stanton Fredericks Sports Group.
