Orlando Pirates FC captain Nkosinathi Sibisi and coach Abdeslam Ouaddou have spoken about the prospect of the South African giants laying their hands on a fourth consecutive MTN8 cup.
The duo commented on the importance of breaking more records for the cup, going into Saturday’s final against Stellenbosch FC. Pirates have won the cup three times in a row and hope to extend that run at Mbombela Stadium.
Sibisi, who is working his way to full match fitness, described winning the cup as special.
“It’s always special to lift a trophy,” Sibisi told Pirates media. “Lifting it for the fourth time will be special, not only for the club and the players but for the supporters as well.”
The defender insisted that pressure is not an issue for him and the Soweto giants.
Sibisi said: “There will be no pressure on me personally – I’ve already won five trophies with the club; this is not about me but about the group. Every final is special, and hopefully this one will be memorable for all the players and the club.”
The Pirates captain missed two-legged MTN8 semifinals as Pirates eliminated Mamelodi Sundowns to date Stellenbosch in the final. Taking his turn while addressing the media during an open day on Tuesday, Ouaddou said the Buccaneers are determined to write another piece of history.
“We are happy to be back at a stadium that will be packed,” he said. “We want to deliver a performance worthy of our supporters.”
