Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has allayed fears that the Soweto-giants are grappling with issues of squad depth as they continue with their hunts for trophies in three fronts.

The Buccaneers are currently chasing for three trophies – Caf Champions League where they are in the quarter-finals, Nedbank Cup where they are the defending champions and reached the semi-finals after eliminating SuperSport United and the Betway Premiership.

In the PSL, they are currently sitting second behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns, 16 points behind, though they have played four matches less. Ahead of their next league fixture against Stellenbosch FC at Athlone on Tuesday, Riveiro was asked whether he was satisfied with the size of his squad.

“I have 37 players in the squad, imagine 37, usually in most of the competitions around the world you cannot have more than 25, we have 37,” Riveiro said as quoted by idiskitimes.

“So, number cannot be a problem. We have quality in every department, in each and every position.

“This thing is not about who’s playing; it’s about staying together and being competitive no matter what, no matter who is in the starting 11.”

A win against the Stellies will see Pirates cut Sundowns’ lead at the top of the 16-team league table to 13 points.
