Orlando Pirates in talks to loan out winger Monnapule Saleng

Monnapule Saleng of Orlando Pirates

SA football giants Orlando Pirates are reportedly in advanced discussions to loan out winger Monnapule Saleng to newly promoted Betway Premiership side Orbit College, as per SABC Sport.

According to the public broadcaster, talks between Pirates and Orbit College are ongoing to help revive the player's career.

Saleng made only five appearances during the 2024/25 season, with his last coming in a CAF Champions League group stage match against Al Ahly in December.

This led to speculation he was being showcased for the North African giants, though those reports were never substantiated, and the Pirates have yet to address the rumours surrounding his reduced playing time.

To help him regain form, Saleng is said to be nearing a loan move to Orbit College, who secured their promotion to the top flight last month in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs.

Under coach Pogiso Makhoye, the North West team finished atop their round-robin league, beating out Cape Town City and Casric Stars to become the second promoted side from the National First Division. Durban City FC automatically secured their spot by winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

It remains to be seen how quickly Pirates can finalise the loan deal for Saleng and put an end to speculation about his future.

Saleng previously had a loan spell at Moroka Swallows before returning to become a key player in Jose Riveiro's inaugural season with the club.
