Orlando Pirates coach José Riveiro has maintained the team's desire to win all trophies including the Betway Premiership following their hard fought 1-0 win against Polokwane City on Saturday.
In the fixture at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, nothing could separate the two sides at the break. However, a 67th minute set piece resulted from Kenyan shot stopper Brian Bwire fumbling Kabelo Dlamini’s ball into the box, which bounced back off defender Nkosinathi Sibisi and into the goal from close range.
Apart from the league title, Pirates are also in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League and the semis of the Nedbank Cup.
"Nobody can question that we’re not trying in each and every game,” said Riveiro as quoted by iDiski Times. "I mean we are not giving up in any competition. We want to win, no matter what happens, no matter what the opponents do, we’re going to try to be at the level that we must be in each and every game and everything."
He continued: "Until the numbers, the mathematics tell us that you know you cannot continue going up we will try until the end, until the last day, if it’s possible. So we knew that today (Saturday) we were about, we played already a final, and is the same for the remaining games. It’s going to be the same because we know how difficult it is to be at the top in this league but again, we’re going to try our best, till the end.”
Pirates are now 12 points behind league leaders and title rivals Mamelodi Sundowns but still have three games in hand. They have amassed 46 points from 15 wins, one draw and four defeats.
