Former Orlando forward, Sibusiso Zuma has indicated that, the club now has a squad depth that is capable of fighting for the Premiership title.
The Buccaneers began their season on a jerky note, with losses against Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gllants leaving new head coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou on the edge.
The former Morocco international defender quickly devised a means to turn things around for Pirates, spearheading five league wins and defending the MTN8 title for the fourth time in a row.
Zuma, who spent two seasons with Pirates between 1998 and 2000 before leaving for Danish side FC Copenhagen, is impressed with the club’s exploits so far.
“I think Orlando Pirates have all the pieces they need to try and get the championship,” Zuma told the Soccerbeat Podcast. “The Cups are great, but the fans and even the legends want the league title.
“They have the IQ in midfield, amazing quality on paper, now they just need to get it together on the pitch.
“We can beat Sundowns and Chiefs, but can we take care of Sekhukhune on a Wednesday? That’s where the league is won, week in, week out. The PSL is a marathon.”
Orlando Pirates currently occupy the third spot in the Betway Premiership with 15 points from seven matches this campaign. Their next fixture is against Siwelele on Saturday October 4 in the Telkom Knockout First Round.
