Orlando Pirates suffered defeat on their return to the Betway Premiership, losing 1-0 to Sekhukhune United at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.
The devastating defeat came after Pirates suffered an exit from the CAF Champions League at the semi-final stage. Speaking after the game, coach Jose Riveiro was lost for words, but detailed Pirates lack of ideas and poor organisation.
“It was a game before the goal and a game after the goal, perhaps,” the Spaniard said on SuperSport. “I think the game was close for us. It looked like the goal was coming, and from a corner kick, in a situation that should be under control, they managed to take the lead.
“After that we didn’t react well. We were disorganised with not many ideas. Maybe I’m wrong, but the keeper only made one save in the first half. We didn’t manage to have shots on target or not enough. That’s why it was 1-0.
“I think the game was going our way before the goal, but after the goal, we didn’t play well enough to deserve the equaliser.”
With rivals Mamelodi Sundowns winning their fixture 3-0 against Richards Bay, Pirates are now 12 points adrift of the leaders, though they still have two matches in hand.
