Orlando Pirates forward Tshegofatso Mabasa has stressed the team’s desire to achieve something special at the end of the season.
The Buccaneers are chasing trophies in three fronts – the Caf Champions League, the Betway Premiership and the Nedbank, where they reached the quarter-finals following a 3-1 win against Baroka FC and will now face five-time winners SuperSport United.
Against Baroka, Mabasa was the hero after he scored a hat-trick to reach 44 goals for the South African giants, and surpassing club legends Phumlani Mkhize and the late Lesley Manyathela, who were tied with him on 41 goals prior to the knockout fixture.
“I’m happy with today’s performance, and I’m glad to see the team bounce back after
the loss in our previous game,” said Mabasa as quoted by Pirates’ official website. “For me, it’s not about personal milestones.
“I want to focus on the team’s goals because they are more impactful and meaningful for the club and our fans. We’re all working hard to achieve something special this season.”
Mabasa is now just 14 goals away from equalling the Little Napoleon, who sits atop the club’s all-time scorers list with 58 goals.
