Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen has downplayed his latest success with Turkish outfit Galatasaray after he scored a brace to secure a 3-1 win over Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League fixture at RamsPark on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles star opened the scoring when he raced to meet a cross from Mario Lemina and applied a clinical finish. Osimhen doubled the lead in the 33rd minute for a 2-0 lead at the half-time break.
Galatasaray’s superb display continued at the start of the second period but they were forced to wait until the 60th minute when Yunus Akgun made it 3-0. Bodo/Glimt never gave up and they snatched a late consolation courtesy of substitute Andreas Helmersen.
By scoring a brace, Osimhen has now scored in seven consecutive European matches for Galatasaray, marking the longest such run in club history, while the Turkish side recording back-to-back European victories having won just one of their previous 18 main-draw matches.
Speaking after the game, Osimhen, who won man of the match award, told Galatasaray website: “t was crucial that we won. It was a very important match. I’m very happy with my teammates’ performance, and I want to congratulate them first and foremost.
“The opponent was really good in the second half and pushed us hard. Ultimately, we got a very important win. I’d like to thank the staff, my coach, and my teammates.”
On his latest success, he said: “I don’t score these goals alone, I don’t break these records alone. A huge thank you to the team and our fans. We’ll continue to build on this momentum.
“I won the Man of the Match award thanks to my teammates; I didn’t win it alone. We’ve been winning together for two matches now. I’d like my other teammates to win this award too.
“The important thing for me is to contribute with my goals and assists. Even if I can’t be that kind of player, I want to contribute to the fight. I’ll be very happy if one of my teammates wins the Man of the Match award.”
Osimhen has now three Champions League goals this campaign from two matches.
The Turkish giants will return to domestic play on Sunday with a home match against Göztepe. Their return to continental action is on November 5 when they travel to face Ajax.
