The Nigerian, making his second consecutive start for the Super Lig leaders and reigning champions, scored his first goal since suffering an injury on international duty to double the lead for the hosts in the 29th minute. Receiving a pass from Leroy Sane, the striker slipped his finish past onrushing Samsunspor goalkeeper Okan Kocuk. Sane opened the scoring inside the opening ten minutes.
The visitors did bounce back despite an 0-2 halftime deficit. Anthony Musaba pulled a goal back in the 56th minute as Samsunspor looked more dangerous in the second half. Late on, the Super Lig’s surprise package this season nearly completed another shock result when Emre Kilinc equalized in the 88th minute.
However, Osimhen produced a moment of magic to spare his club’s blushes in stoppage time. A cross from the right wing was nodded towards the six-yard box where the former Napoli star produced an acrobatic bicycle kick finish to snatch maximum points in dramatic fashion.
After being forced off at halftime of Nigeria’s decisive 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff defeat to DR Congo due to a hamstring injury, Osimhen missed a couple of matches before returning for a 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce in an Istanbul derby. After failing to find the net against Fener, the Super Eagles star now has 11 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions this season following Friday’s brace.
The league leaders are now four points clear of Fenerbahce with one more match played in what appears to be an intriguing title chase in the Turkish top flight.
Next up is a return to UEFA Champions League action away at Monaco on Tuesday. Osimhen is currently second on the scoring charts in Europe’s top club competition with 6 goals in 3 matches.
