Four consecutive draws in all competitions left Galatasaray supporters concerned but the Turkish Süper Lig leaders produced an inspired second half to win 2-1 at Alanyaspor on Sunday.
Nigerian superstar striker Victor Osimhen was on target for the defending champions who moved seven points clear of Istanbul title rivals Fenerbahçe. But the first half revealed more underwhelming play as midtable Alanyaspor held their own, taking the lead through a 23rd minute goal from Tonny Vilhena.
Manager Okan Burak and his Galatasaray side came out more determined in the second half, however, and leveled through an own goal in the 51st minute. Soon after the hour mark it was the Super Eagle who arrived at the far post to head in from a Barış Yılmaz cross and Galatasaray eased to an important victory.
Galatasaray have stopped the bleeding and now enter a crucial stretch with ten games remaining in their league campaign. Eliminated from the UEFA Europa League, the Istanbul giants can now focus all their energy on defending the title. Osimhen now has 17 goals and 4 assists in 21 league matches, one goal behind league leading scorer Krzysztof Piątek of İstanbul Başakşehir.
Youssef En-Nesyri and Fenerbahçe have played one less league match than Galatasaray since they are still in the Europa League with a second leg clash on Thursday against Scotland's Rangers FC. Fener travel to Glasgow trailing after a surprise 1-3 defeat.
