Nigeria international Victor Osimhen has discussed his record breaking career at Galatasaray after he grabbed a brace to help the team secure a 4-2 Super Lig victory against Sivasspor which kept them on course to win the title at the end of the season.

Former Arsenal player Lucas Torreira put Galatasaray ahead at RAMS Park before Barış Alper Yılmaz made it 2-0 in the 21st minute. The Super Eagles forward then scored a quick brace in the 15th and 31st minutes respectively to make it 4-0.

The home side reduced the deficit in the 33rd minute courtesy of Rey Menaj but it was not enough to stop Osimhen’s side from bagging vital points to cement their stay at the summit.

“I want to start by congratulating the team. I would also like to thank our fans. They have played very important roles for us since the beginning of the season. We knew that every match was a final and that we had to convert opportunities into goals,” Osimhen told Galatasaray website after the game.

“It is important to score 2-3 goals and finish the match, but we need to ask for more. We had to defend with all our might. We got a good result. This victory was very important on the way to the fifth star. We knew our opponent and we had to continue by increasing the momentum we had gained.”

On breaking his career goal record at Galatasaray, Osimhen said, “It was important to break my record in my first season. I am at one of the most important clubs in the world. The biggest club in Türkiye. I would like to thank my family and friends for helping me. I would like to thank the technical team and the club staff.

“They never left me alone. This season is a memory that I will remember for the rest of my life. Apart from goals and assists, I like to help the team. I want to get the ball in the future, help the midfield, do my best for the team. The team comes first for me.

“When I convert opportunities into goals, it makes me happy. The important thing is not Victor Osimhen, but the team. Roland is also very important. We can say the same thing for Mario, Torreira and Sanchez.”

Osimhen concluded: “Regarding the love shown to him by the children at the ceremony, our star player said, “It’s a great feeling. It’s great that they are inspired by watching me, that they are wearing the masks. I thank God. I hadn’t seen this much before coming to Galatasaray.

“Everyone showing this much love, the children shouting at the tunnel exit… I will continue to make them proud. The team winning, me scoring… I want to continue as they know me. If I can inspire my teammates’ children, that makes me very happy.”

The win pushed Galatasaray to 83 points, eight more than second-placed Fenerbahçe SK. Out of 27 matches, Osimhen has scored 24 goals and provided five assists.
