Austin FC are through to the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup after a star turn from Ghanaian winger Osman Bukari in Wednesday evening's 3-1 Round of 16 victory over Texas rivals Houston Dynamo.

The 26-year-old has shown a tendency to blow hot and cold for Austin but on Wednesday, Bukari's second half penalty kick doubled the advantage forLos Verdes. Striker Brandon Vazquez previously gave hosts Austin the lead close to the half hour mark.

Bukari had one more moment of magic in his bag for the evening and it came soon after his spot kick. Collecting a loose ball on the left wing, the winger was able to turn and accelerate to the end line before providing a perfect cross for Ilie Sánchez to finish. The former Red Star Belgrade player now has two goals and two assists in sixteen games this season.

After an inconsistent start to the MLS season that has them in ninth place in the Western Conference, the US Open Cup appears to be providing a welcome adventure. Having failed to win their last six league matches, Bukari and Austin will look to build on their momentum when they travel to face an in form Minnesota United on Saturday.
