Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has said that, coach Otto Addo reserves the right to include Andre Ayew in the World Cup squad.
Andre Ayew has been in fantastic form for Dutch Eredivisie side NAC Breda since joining them on a free transfer after leaving Le Havre.
His debut goal during NAC Breda’s 3-3 draw against Feyenoord drew several debates over whether he should make the cut for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, Agyemang Badu who played with Andre Ayew in Ghana U-20’s 2009 FIFA Word Cup winning squad, had this to say.
“Normally it depends on the coach, his philosophy, his ideas and the kind of players he needs for the World Cup,” Agyemang-Badu told Citi Sports.
“Andre is doing very well, he’s playing well and scoring goals. If the coach thinks his philosophy and game plan require him, then he merits a place in the team.
“He hasn’t stopped playing football. What I know about him is that he’s concentrated on his club football, but if there is an opportunity for him to help the nation, he will be willing to come,” he added.
“When the list comes out we will all scrutinise it and support the team. But at the end of the day the coach knows the kind of players he wants to go with.”
Andre Ayew, 36, has now played nine matches with a goal to his name as NAC Breda battle relegation.
Andre Ayew has previously played for Olympique Marseille, Arles-Avignon, Lorient, Swansea City, West Ham, Fenerbahce and Al Sadd.
He returned to England on a short term deal with Nottingham Forest in 2023 before signing for Le Havre where he played for two seasons.
He has 120 caps with 24 goals for Ghana and it remains to be seen if he would make the final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup where the Black Stars are paired against Panama, England and Croatia in Group L.
