Former Ghana international, Gladson Awako has urged the senior national team selectors to cast their net wide to fish for more talented players for the Black Stars.

Awako, a member of Ghana’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations winner says that, there are equally talented home based players as goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, defenders Razak Simpson and Kamaradini Mamudu and striker Kwame Opoku who were part of Otto Addo’s squad for the 2025 Unity Cup in London.

The 34-year-old earned a senior invitation while playing for Accra Great Olympics and he shared his thoughts with Radio Gold.

“We have good quality players in the league. We have a couple of players in the national team and when you check their statistics in the league, they are not doing badly at all.

“I don’t think these are the only players doing well, we have other players as well. If given the opportunity, they will also bring out something for the world to see that the league is not doing badly.

“We all appreciate the chance that they have given to those there now and what I have seen now is they are doing well and they want to maintain their spot in the team and it shouldn’t be like they went there to add up to the numbers.

Awako made his debut in the 2021 AFCON qualifying match against Sao Tome at the Accra Sports Stadium a game that ended 3-1 in favour of the Black Stars.
