Despite a strong star, the Singida-based side conceded the opener in the 40th minute when Kenya midfielder Duke Abuya found the back of the net. Clement Mzize scored their second in the second half, and Singida’s hopes of recovering were dashed when Ghanaian striker Jonathan Sowah was sent off.
“Of course, our planning was good. We know Young Africans play with fast attack, very quick behind the ball, and then they explode in attack. We agreed that we should not lose balls around the centre circle, but we got carried away because we had managed them very well until the point they scored the opener,” Ouma told Pan-Africa Football.
“They scored the first goal from a quick attack, but even after conceding, we had a good chance to equalise but we missed the opportunity. Maybe it could have been 1-1 at half-time, and it means you still have a chance. However, I praise my players for the performance, it was their first experience at this stage, and we hope to play in the final again next season.”
Meanwhile, Singida’s display caught the attention of Young Africans coach Miloud Hamdi, who said: “We played a good game, we had many chances to score, we missed many opportunities. We played against a very good team, Singida is are a good team, and it is not easy to win against Singida.
“It is not easy, it is very difficult, they have a good team, a good squad, a good coach. They play a difficult style of game, and I am happy we managed to win 2-0 against them. Today we were playing our fourth match in ten days, and we finished very tired. But I dedicate this trophy to anybody that supports Young Africans.”
The victory capped off a remarkable season for Yanga, who secured the NBC Premier League title, the Federation Cup, and the Community Shield to complete a domestic treble.
