Ousted Zambia Football Association (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga has reacted to his loss to Keith Mweemba on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Kamanga lost 45-27 to the Lusaka-based lawyer during the FAZ elections held on Friday, May 9, 2025, in Kabwe. Reacting to the defeat, Kamanga said: "I would like to thank you for the opportunity in the last eight years. Congratulations to the new president. I wish you all the best."
Former Zambia captain Christopher Katonga has since congratulated Mweemba.
“When Zambian people want change, CHANGE happens. From the bottom of my HEART. Thank you Mr. Keith Mweemba. Congratulations. This progress and a new hope. Football is key to national development," the 2012 AFCON winner wrote on his Facebook page.
Mweemba ended Kamanga's nine-year tenure at the helm of FAZ. He was seeking a third five-year term of office.
Mweemba, a Lusaka-based practicing lawyer, collected 45 votes during the FAZ polls in Kabwe, shrugging off competition from Kamanga’s 20 votes, and the association’s former general secretary, Adrian Kashala’s 17. Emmanuel Munaile got zero votes.
It is a big blow for Kamanga, who also lost his bid for a FIFA Council seat for Anglophone countries in Africa recently. The FAZ elections proceed with the polls as the only agenda of the annual general meeting (AGM) in Kabwe town.
Earlier, delegates at the AGM had agreed to focus on the elections following guidance from FIFA Senior Member Associations’ Governance Manager, Ahmed Harraz.
