EFL Championship side Norwich City have revealed the reason behind their signing of Senegalese winger Papa Amadou Diallo, who arrived on a four-year deal for undisclosed fee from Ligue 2 side Metz.
The Senegal international, who will wear the number 19 shirt, began his professional career in Ligue 1, Senegal’s top flight, and featured for Génération Foot before making the move to Europe to sign for French side Metz in February 2023. Diallo also starred for Senegal at the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN), scoring two goals at each tournament.

Revealing the main reason they went for his services, Norwich Sporting director Ben Knapper said: “Papa is a huge talent, and we’re delighted to have won the race for his signature.
“Despite having multiple offers from across Europe, he fought hard to join us, and we’re excited to have him on board to help us work towards our objective of reaching the Premier League.
“He’s a player with enormous potential and he’ll add pace, and a real directness, to our attacking options. He can play in multiple positions and is comfortable operating on both the outside and inside.”
Knapper continued: “He will provide real penetration both with his movement and ability to carry the ball and commit players one versus one. He’s had a great footballing education up until this point and we’re looking forward to seeing him further develop in our environment as both a person and player.
“We’re delighted to welcome Papa and his family to Norwich City.”
During the 2024/25 season, Diallo featured in 28 Ligue 2 fixtures and scored seven times as Metz finished third and defeated Reims in the play-offs to earn promotion to the French top flight.
