After 41 years of futility, Tottenham Hotspur are the champions in a European competition after securing a 1-0 victory over fellow English Premier League side Manchester United. Senegal national team midfielder Pape Matar Sarr provided an assist while he and Mali national team star Yves Bissouma took part for Spurs.
Sarr's perfect cross in the 42nd minute ended with Brennan Johnson applying the final touch for the ball to just sneak by United goalkeeper André Onana. United dominated possession throughout the final but failed to do much with it in a battle between two teams who endured nightmare league campaigns.
For both Sarr and Bissouma, it is the first trophies in their club careers. After an up-and-down season that saw him relegated to the bench at times and perhaps destined for a transfer out of Tottenham, Bissouma regained the trust of coach Ange Postecoglou for the final weeks.
Sarr continues to develop well since arriving from FC Metz ahead of the 2022-23 season. The 22-year-old midfielder made 54 appearances in all competitions this season with 6 goals and 3 assists.
