Thomas Partey hit with fresh rape charges ahead of November trial

Ghana international Thomas Partey has been hit with two fresh charges of rape. The midfielder had already appeared in court to deny allegations of raping two women and sexually assaulting a third.

Partey, who previously played in England for Arsenal before joining La Liga side Villarreal, is due to face trial on those initial allegations in November.

On Thursday, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced that the latest charges refer to a separate report of non-recent offences in 2020, following a new investigation by the Metropolitan Police. The CPS further stated that these fresh allegations were first reported in August 2025.

CPS confirms new sexual offence charges against Ghana star Thomas Partey

A spokesperson for the CPS said: “Mr Partey is already charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in connection to allegations by three women regarding incidents which took place between 2021 and 2022. These new charges relate to a separate report of non-recent offences in 2020 involving one additional woman. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 13 March for a first hearing.”

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder has already denied the offences allegedly committed between 2021 and 2022 during his time at Arsenal. Notably, he was charged four days after his contract with the London club expired in June.

Partey has been released under bail conditions that require him to notify police of any international travel 24 hours in advance and prohibit him from contacting the complainants. His bail conditions do not, however, prevent him from playing professional football.
