Pasuwa beefs up Malawi coaching panel with duo

Malawi national team coach Kalisto Pasuwa has beefed up his backroom staff ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Pasuwa, a former Zimbabwe national team midfielder, has brought on board former Flames forward Russel Mwafulirwa and ex-winger Fischer Kondowe.

The former Silver Strikers Jomo Cosmos and Ajax Cape Town star Mwafulirwa and ex-FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Black Leopards winger Kondowe have joined the panel as strikers and fitness coaches respectively.

Why Malawi coach has roped in Flames legends

The 2010 AFCON leading scorer for Malawi is a new addition to the Flames coaching panel while the Bullets’ legend has replaced Peter Mgangira who is preoccupied coaching Strikers ahead of the 2026 FDH Premiership season.

A statement on the Football Association of Malawi website confirms the latest additions to the Flames coaching panel ahead of their participation in the four-nations tournament in Botswana.

“Flames Head Coach Kalisto Pasuwa has roped in Fischer Anong’a Kondowe as the team’s Fitness Coach to replace Peter Mgangira, who is currently committed to club duties ahead of the 2026/27 season,” reads the statement.
