Paul Put commits future to Uganda after impressive spell

Uganda Cranes Head Coach Paul Joseph Put has officially extended his stay at the helm of the national team after signing a new two-and-a-half-year contract with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

The announcement was made on Thursday morning at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, with FUFA 1st Vice President Justus Mugisha and FUFA CEO Edgar Watson confirming the extension.

“The FUFA Executive Committee made a rare decision to renew Coach Paul Put’s contract a testament to his outstanding performance. The federation beat off strong competition from some of Africa’s top and wealthiest footballing nations that were after him,” stated Mugisha.

Put, who initially joined FUFA in November 2023, has been instrumental in transforming the Uganda Cranes setup leading the team back to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and maintaining solid performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

During his tenure so far, the Belgian tactician has managed 23 matches, recording 13 wins, 3 draws, and 7 losses, with 30 goals scored and 24 conceded a notable improvement in both structure and consistency.

FUFA CEO Edgar Watson emphasized the importance of continuity and confidence in the project:

“We look forward to a positive and successful future where we will continue to achieve more under FUFA’s vision of becoming the number one football nation both on and off the pitch,” Watson remarked.

Immediately after putting pen to paper, Coach Put named a 26-man squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Chad and Morocco. Uganda will face Chad on 15th November, followed by a clash with Morocco on 19th November, with both matches scheduled to be played in Morocco.
