Paul Put: Uganda players’ response in training shows readiness for Mozambique clash

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has expressed satisfaction with his players’ attitude and commitment during training as the team ramps up preparations for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.

Speaking after Monday’s session at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, Put acknowledged that the start of any national team camp is always challenging.

“The most difficult part for the coach is the first day when the players are coming,” he said. “With the national team, you only have three or four days to train before the game, so time is always limited. But I think they understood the message, and I was very impressed with the performance they showed today.”

The Belgian tactician noted that some players had featured for their clubs over the weekend and were still traveling, with arrivals expected later in the day. On the fitness of striker Jude Ssemugabi, Put confirmed that the medical team would assess him to determine the severity of his knock.

Having worked with the CHAN squad for over a month, Put emphasized the importance of competition for places in the team. “I have to put pressure on the players to know that no one is secure in his position,” he stated. “I don’t care if you play here or abroad; the best players will play. That’s the only way to get the results we need.”

Uganda will kick off their World Cup Qualifiers campaign at Namboole, facing Mozambique on Friday, September 5, before taking on Somalia on September 8.
