Guinea parted ways with French coach Michel Dussuyer in May after a series of poor results in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Syli National confirmed the appointment in an official statement:

“The Guinean Football Federation is pleased to announce the appointment of Paulo Jorge Rebelo Duarte as the new coach of the Guinean National Team. This choice follows the call for applications launched by the FGF on June 13, 2025, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, as part of the restructuring of the national selection of the Republic of Guinea.”

The 56-year-old coach is no stranger to African football, with spells as the trainer of Burkina Faso, Gabon, and Togo. Duarte has also led Tunisian club CS Sfaxien and Angolan side Primeiro de Agosto. The former defender’s first assignment will be in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifier ties against Algeria and Somalia in September.

Duarte led Burkina Faso to a third-place finish at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
