Mozambique legend Pelembe spoils son’s party

Mozambique legend Elias Dominguez Pelembe has added another silverware to his collection at his son Diego’s expense on Saturday.

The 42-year-old led UD Songo to a 5-4 post-match penalty victory over his son’s Black Bulls to claim Mozambique Cup glory.

The game had ended one-all in regulation time before paving the way for the penalties. Black Bulls missed one penalty kick while UD Songo converted all their attempts.

During regulation time, Black Bulls scored first through captain Kadre in the 20th minute.

However, the Tete-based opponents hit back through David 22 minutes later to bring the game level, before proceedings spilt over to the post-match penalties.

Pelembe’s Journey To The Mozambique Cup Final

It was a sad end to the afternoon for the 15-year-old Diego Pelembe, who started the game from the bench. The youngster, who hopes to follow in the footsteps of his father, made his debut earlier in December when Black Bulls overcame Ferroviário da Maputo 1-0 in the cup’s semifinal, courtesy of Kadre’s goal.

In the opposite camp, the Mozambique league champions beat Ferroviário Da Nacala 2-0 to reach the final.

The cup final marked the end of the domestic season in Mozambique. Pelembe senior will now switch to the Africa Cup of Nations assignments for the Mambas in Morocco.
