Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau has officially found a new home, completing a move to Vietnamese V.League 1 champions Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC.

The 32-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly forward was unveiled as the club’s new signing on Saturday.

Tau, who was a free agent after leaving Qatar SC, had been linked with various clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs. However, his reported salary demands of R450,000 made a return to the Betway Premiership unlikely as no formal offers were made.

This move marks the second time a South African has joined the Vietnamese V.League 1 in recent times, with Tau hoping to get more game time ahead of the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.

“Welcome, South African star Percy Muzi Tau to Thep Xanh Nam Dinh. Nam Dinh Green Steel Club would like to introduce the team’s new player – Percy Muzi Tau, a star from the South African national team,” reads the club statement.

He joins fellow Bafana Bafana international Njabulo Blom, who also recently signed with the club. Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC, which won the Vietnamese V.League 1 three times, including the past season, has also qualified for the Asia Champions League.

In their official announcement, the club praised Tau as a seasoned veteran with “magical” dribbling skills. “Nam Dinh Green Steel Club would like to introduce the team’s new player – Percy Muzi Tau, a star from the South African national team,” the club stated.

The club also highlighted his extensive career, which includes playing for Brighton & Hove Albion, Club Brugge, Anderlecht, Al Ahly, and Qatar SC.
