Petrojet hold Al Ahly to 1-1 draw in Nile Egyptian League

Al Ahly were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Petrojet on Wednesday evening in the Nile Egyptian League, dropping points for the first time under Danish coach Jess Thorup.

The Red Devils visited Petrojet at the Military Academy Stadium in Cairo as part of Matchday 12. The hosts made a perfect start when Hamed Hamdan put them ahead in the 11th minute, heading home a precise cross past Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.

After a frustrating first half, Al Ahly found their equalizer just after the hour mark. Substitute Nejc Gradisar made an instant impact, nodding in from close range after a clever header assist from Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, who connected with Mohamed Hany’s cross from the right flank.

Both teams pushed for a late winner, but poor finishing at both ends ensured the points were shared.

The draw ended Al Ahly’s perfect start under Thorup, who had guided his side to three consecutive wins in all competitions prior to this game. The Cairo giants remain second in the league table with 22 points, while Petrojet moved up to 15 points in 12th place.
