Pirates get positive update on key duo ahead of cup game

Orlando Pirates is set to receive a timely boost with key defender Thabiso Sesane and midfielder Selaelo Rasebotja nearing a return to full fitness. The positive injury update comes as the Sea Robbers dive into a crucial run of cup fixtures.

Sesane, a Pirates development product, was a defensive pillar last season before his injury, making 29 appearances and starring in the MTN8 final victory. His strong partnership with the currently-injured Olisa Ndah was vital to the team’s success.

Midfield Reinforcement on the Horizon For Pirates

Midfielder Rasebotja, who joined the club in July 2024, is also making significant progress in his recovery from a long-term setback that cut short his debut season after just 11 appearances.

The club confirmed on their website that the duo is actively working their way back: “The likes of Selaelo Rasebotja and Thabiso Sesane continue to work their way back to full fitness after their injury spells.”

Focus Shifts to the Carling Knockout

This news offers a glimmer of hope as Pirates look to put their recent CAF Champions League penalty shootout exit behind them.

The team’s immediate focus shifts to the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final against Magesi on Tuesday night at Orlando Stadium. Despite a bruising weekend cup encounter, Pirates have reported no fresh injury concerns and are eager to extend their exceptional 10-match unbeaten run in domestic football.

They face a Magesi side that has historically troubled them in this competition, eliminating the Buccaneers in the first round last season. Securing a win and the return of Sesane and Rasebotja would provide substantial momentum heading into the latter stages of the season.
