Orlando Pirates have received a timely personnel boost ahead of their crucial Betway Premiership clash against Richards Bay FC tonight, with midfielder Sipho Mbule cleared to return to action.

The Buccaneers host the Natal Rich Boyz at the Orlando Amstel Arena (19:30 kickoff) knowing that nothing less than a two-goal victory will suffice if they are to reclaim the summit of the log from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sipho Mbule Returns to Contention

The 27-year-old Bafana Bafana international has been sidelined for the last four fixtures, leaving a void in the creative department. However, the club confirmed on Wednesday morning that the “Master Chef” has successfully navigated his rehabilitation.

“Midfielder Sipho Mbule is back in contention for a place in the matchday squad after a brief spell on the sidelines,” the club stated in their official pre-match briefing.

Despite his return, Mbule faces a daunting task to break back into the starting XI. In his absence, the duo of Relebohile Mofokeng and Patrick Maswanganyi have been in scintillating form, driving the Pirates’ attack with a level of fluidity that has made them the most talked-about pair in the league.

The Battle for the Summit – Pirates and Sundowns

The stakes could not be higher for Abdeslam Ouaddou’s men. Following Sundowns’ professional 2-0 win over Orbit College on Tuesday night, the Brazilians currently sit three points clear at the top with 47 points.

For Pirates to leapfrog their rivals, they require a win by a two-goal margin to overturn the goal-difference advantage. With only ten games remaining in the season, every goal is becoming a vital currency in what has evolved into a two-horse race for the title.

Beyond Sipho Mbule’s return, the Sea Robbers will also welcome back the industrious Kamogelo Sebelebele. The midfielder is eligible for selection after serving a one-match suspension that saw him miss the recent trip to Polokwane.

His availability provides Ouaddou with the tactical depth needed to combat a Richards Bay side that has proven difficult to break down in recent weeks.

For Sipho Mbule, the final stretch of the season is a chance for redemption. Since returning from the 2025 AFCON, the midfielder has struggled for consistent game time, featuring in only two matches.

His lack of minutes recently saw him snubbed by Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos for the preliminary squad ahead of the upcoming international friendlies against Panama. A strong showing tonight—should he get the nod—could be the first step in reminding the national selectors of his undeniable quality.
