South African giants Orlando Pirates FC have off-loaded forward Sinoxolo Kwayiba back to fellow Betway Premiership side Chippa United.
The 25-year-old attacker only joined the Soweto giants on the onset of this Premier Soccer League season following eye-catching performances with the Western Cape-based club.
However, life at Pirates, where there is always a dog-fight for playing positions, proved a challenge for Kwayiba, who is now leaving without locating the target after just four appearances for the Buccaneers.
For Chippa United, welcoming back their star is a blessing at this stage as they battle against relegation from the Betway Premiership. A statement from the Port Elizabeth-based team suggests so.
“Chippa United FC is delighted to welcome back Sinoxolo Kwayiba, who has rejoined the club on a three-year contract, making his return a permanent move,” reads the statement.
“Kwayiba comes home to the province at a critical moment for Chippa United FC. As the team continues its fight for survival and looks to address its scoring challenges, we believe his presence will be instrumental in helping us turn the corner and restoring pride across the province.
“The club would like to thank Orlando Pirates for their professionalism and cooperation in concluding this transfer.”
Kwayiba joined Pirates at the start of the campaign following his glowing form with the Chilli Boys. He scored seven goals and provided one assist in 27 league matches. At that stage, the rising star was so good he even earned South Africa national team call-up.
However, what seemed a step forward in his career took him backwards. Now, he is not part of Bafana Bafana’s squad that has just exited the AFCON finals in Morocco. Did the move to ‘bigger club’ Pirates perhaps come too soon? Can Kwayiba rediscover his spark? Only time will tell.
