Pisa close in on €11m deal for Nigerian marksman Rafiu Durosinmi

Italian side Pisa SC have reportedly won the race for highly-coveted Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi, reaching an agreement with Viktoria Plzen for a deal that could rise to €11m.

The 23-year-old forward has been a man in demand, with his thoughts initially linked to moves across Europe’s top leagues. Despite heavy interest from English Premier League outfit West Ham United, Portuguese giants Benfica, and Bundesliga high-flyers VfB Stuttgart, Durosinmi has opted for a move to Italy.

The Financial Verdict For Rafiu Durosinmi

According to Sky Sport Italia, the deal is structured as a guaranteed €9m fee, bolstered by a further €2m in performance-related add-ons. For Viktoria Plzen, the January window represents a strategic exit; with Durosinmi’s contract set to expire on June 30, the club was forced to make a definitive verdict on his sale now to avoid losing their star asset for free in the summer.

Explaining the Hype

Durosinmi’s stock has soared following an explosive campaign in the Czech Republic. The striker has netted 13 goals in 32 appearances this season, further enhancing his reputation with a standout performance against AS Roma in the Europa League.

Since arriving at Plzen from Karvina in 2023, the Nigerian has consistently proved his worth as a physical and clinical presence in the final third. Explaining the player’s decision, sources suggest that Pisa’s project and the prospect of regular minutes in a competitive league were the deciding factors in his choice to join the Italian outfit over his more illustrious suitors.
