Ghana Premier League: Dramani’s plan to end Hearts of Oak’s inconsistent run

Ghana Premier League side Hearts of Oak are targeting a sharp upturn in form as coach Didi Dramani has declared that his primary objective is to correct the team’s performance and restore consistency to their play.

Hearts of Oak’s checkered performance in the domestic league was worsened last Wednesday when Second Division club, True Life FC kicked them out of the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup round 64 at their Kpobiman Complex.

Prior to losing to the second tier side in the FA Cup, the 2000 CAF Champions League winners had picked just five points in their last four matches in the Ghana Premier League.

The Phobians will head to the Northern part of Ghana to face Karela United in match day 13 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium and head coach, Mas Udi Didi Dramani knows the challenge that awaits the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup winners.

The league game will be staged on Sunday with kickoff set for 3PM GMT at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, Tamale.

Hearts have picked five points from their last four matches

“I think that we need to play more decisively in key areas [and] we need to try to control the opponents in terms of their long balls and picking the second ball situations and making use of the created opportunities and so we need to be very clinical in the final third and also be able to tame the opponent in their transitional play,” Didi Dramani told Hearts TV.

The record Ghana FA Cup holder’s shocking round of 64 FA Cup exit against True Life FC has mounted pressure on the technical team but Didi Dramani believes that valuable lessons have been learnt from their horrible performance against the lower tier side.

“I think we have been upfront with each other in terms of what we didn’t do right in Wednesday’s FA Cup match [against True Life FC], especially those who had the opportunity to play and so we all agreed that we have the responsibility to bounce back, nobody should tell you this.

“We also have the aspect of reflecting on the outcomes and also forge ahead to pick lessons and the learning parts and focus on our strengths.

Hearts of Oak have collected 21 points from 12 league matches this campaign, same as sworn rivals Asante Kotoko. Hearts will look to avoid defeat as a loss will worsen the plight of the technical team.
