Plateau United secure midfielder Jonathan Okechukwu

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Plateau United has officially completed the signing of midfielder Jonathan Okechukwu from Nigeria National League (NNL) outfit Crown FC.

The promising young talent joins Plateau United on a two-year contract.

Okechukwu’s move comes after his standout performances during the recent NNL Super 8 playoffs in Asaba, Delta State. Though Crown FC’s promotion bid ultimately fell short, his commanding displays in midfield garnered significant attention from numerous top-flight clubs.

Last season, Okechukwu was a key figure in Crown FC’s campaign, forming an important partnership with fellow standout Wasiu Falolu.

His arrival is a strategic move for Plateau United under its new management and technical leadership. The club recently appointed Oluwasola Adegun as its new head coach and is focused on revamping its squad with fresh, dynamic talent. Okechukwu is expected to be a central figure in this revitalisation, providing the creativity and defensive strength needed in midfield to compete at the highest level of the NPFL.

The 2025/26 NPFL season is scheduled to kick off on August 22, 2025, giving Okechukwu and the new-look Plateau United squad a few weeks to prepare for their first competitive fixture.
