Police detain KCCA as Vipers go top in action-packed UPL Tuesday

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League roared back to life on Tuesday with a day full of surprises, statement victories, and a long-awaited breakthrough win.

Police FC delivered the biggest shock of the day, stunning former table leaders KCCA 2-0 at the Kiira Road Arena, while Vipers SC took full advantage with a comfortable 2-0 win over Mbarara City to climb to the top of the table. Elsewhere, Buhimba United Saints finally ended their long wait for victory by edging Maroons 1-0.

At Kiira Road, Police produced a disciplined and well-executed performance to halt KCCA’s impressive run. Obedi Brian James broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, finishing off a fine assist from Dennis Kalanzi, before Ikamba Bedia sealed the victory 13 minutes later.

Kalanzi’s tireless display earned him the Man of the Match award as Police held firm to end KCCA’s five-match winning streak. The Kasasiro Boys struggled to impose themselves and now drop to second place with 26 points, one behind the new leaders.

Buhimba United Saints snap an eight-match winless run

At Kitende, Vipers SC made sure there was no room for error in the title race as they dispatched relegation-threatened Mbarara City 2-0 for their third straight win. Fresh from AFCON duty, Allan Okello opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 40th minute after Milton Karisa was fouled.

Abdulkarim Watambala doubled the advantage in the 51st minute, capping a dominant display that earned him Man of the Match honours.
The Venoms’ eighth win in 11 matches takes them to the summit on 27 points, and they have played a game fewer than both KCCA and Police.

Earlier in the day, Buhimba United Saints finally snapped an eight-match winless run with a narrow 1-0 victory over Maroons. Derrick Byabachwezi’s 51st-minute strike proved decisive as the newcomers showed great resilience to protect their lead. The win lifts Buhimba to eighth place on 13 points, while Maroons remain seventh on 15.

At the foot of the table, Mbarara City’s sixth defeat of the campaign leaves them third from bottom on 10 points, just above Lugazi, who have the same number of points but a game in hand.

The league action continues on Wednesday with Calvary hosting BUL, Kitara visiting UPDF, and NEC welcoming Lugazi.
