Zambia’s CAF Champions League (CAFCL) representatives Power Dynamos FC have switched fully to domestic chase for honours.

The CAFCL group stage debutants Power Dynamos made a shaky start to the continental assignments. The Zambians lost 3-0 to hosts RS Berkane in Morocco on November 22.

Seven days later, the going became even tougher for Osward Mutapa’s side as they lost 1-0 to the reigning CAF Champions League winners, Pyramids FC.

The back-to-back defeats left the Zambian champions bottom of Group A. Matches for the pool will resume next month.

Now, Power Dynamos are making the most of the break from the continental matches to consolidate their place in the local MTN Super League assignments.

On Monday, Mutapa’s men came from behind to beat Konkola Blades 2-1 at Arthur Davies Stadium.

Blades silenced the fancied opponents after getting an early lead in the 29th minute through Francis Mubanga’s close-range finish.

Chasing the game, Mutapa shuffled his pack. He introduced Moses Shumah for Daniel Adoko while Brian Masanyinga, Ronel Manyanga, Titus Chansa and Kapembwa Musonda replaced Frederick Mulambia, Chifundo Mphasi, Jackson Mulambia and Ishmael Eddie Ankobo.

Such changes paid dividends as Shumah scored twice to ensure the maximum points for Power Dynamos.

The Kenyan brought the game level with an 85th-minute headed goal before adding his second three minutes later.

Power Dynamos have since moved into second place on 25 points, six behind league leaders, Red Arrows. The next game for Mutapa’s men is against Kabwe Warriors on Saturday.
