Alex Iwobi played an influential role on Sunday to help Fulham end a three-match skid in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory at Sunderland.
The Nigeria national team star set up the opening goal from Raúl Jiménez early in the second half before finishing off the victory late on with an 85th minute finish. Sunday marked Iwobi’s first goal contributions of 2026 with The Cottagers.
The visitors came into the match having lost three consecutive league fixtures and four of their last five, but on the back of a a confidence-boosting victory at Stoke City in the FA Cup last Sunday. After a tense first half, the action picked up shortly after halftime in an even clash.
And it was Iwobi who set up the first goal courtesy of poor marking from The Black Cats. His corner kick service found a wide open Jiménez and the Mexican’s header was precise.
MOTM Jiménez then converted from the penalty spot seven minutes later to double the advantage for the visitors and Sunderland had a massive task ahead of them. Enzo Le Fee responded with a penalty of his own in the 77th minute.
But with the hosts throwing numbers forward in a desperate attempt to find an equalizer, it was Iwobi who finished off the result in the 85th minute. After gaining possession outside his penalty area, Harry Wilson embarked on a long dribbling run before passing to the Nigerian on the left wing for a finish past onrushing Sunderland keeper Robin Roefs.
