Known for being a difficult opponent who can take down the Premier League's best clubs on their day, Fulham proved to be a thorn in the side of leaders Liverpool once again on Sunday.
After drawing the Reds 2-2 at Anfield earlier this season, the London club snatched all three points this time in a 3-2 victory at Craven Cottage. Alexis Mac Allister gave the visitors the lead inside fifteen minutes but three goals in a fourteen minute span gave Fulham a shocking 3-1 halftime lead.
Ryan Sessegnon equalized in the 23rd minute and then Nigeria national team midfielder Alex Iwobi took the spotlight. Collecting the ball following a blocked shot in the 32nd minute, the 28-year-old created room to shoot and fired a powerful effort past Liverpool keeper Caoimhín Kelleher with his left foot.
Five minutes later, Rodrigo Muniz completed a miserable spell for the league leaders by making it 3-1 in the 37th minute. After a corner kick was cleared, Iwobi popped the ball high into the air and Liverpool failed to deal with it allowing Muniz to fire in an opportunistic finish.
Fulham remain serious contenders to qualify for European football next season. The Cottagers are in 8th place on 48 points, three points back of Manchester City and Aston Villa in UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League spots. Iwobi has 7 goals and 4 assists in 30 Premier League matches this season.
