AFCON: Premier league celebrates Iwobi’s performance In Nigeria win against Tanzania

The English Premier League has commended Fulham and Nigeria men’s senior national team midfielder Alex Iwobi for his impressive performance in the Super Eagles’ win against Tanzania, in their 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) Group C opening match on Tuesday.

Iwobi delivered an outstanding performance, providing two assists that led to Nigeria winning the encounter 2-1. The Fulham man floated in a delightful cross that was headed in by Semi Ajayi to give the Super Eagles a first-half lead.

After Kokola M’mombwa equalized for Tanzania, the three-time African champions went back in front a few minutes later. Iwobi laid the ball off for Ademola Lookman, who struck a left-footed shot that flew past the goalkeeper.

Commenting on his performance, the Premier League wrote on their Instagram handle acknowledging his impact in the match.

Up next for the Super Eagles is a clash with Tunisia on Saturday, December 27, in Fes. When the Eagles last faced Tunisia in the AFCON 2021 Round of 16, the North Africans won 1-0, a match in which Iwobi was shown a straight red card.

The Tunisians started their current campaign strong after overcoming Uganda 3-1 in Rabat on Tuesday.
