Premier League: Salah scores as Liverpool return to win column

Mohamed Salah struck for his sixth Premier League goal of the campaign on Saturday in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Fulham at Anfield.

The Egyptian curled a clever, low strike past Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno to put the hosts up 2-0 by halftime. 17-year-old forward talent Rio Ngumoha put the Reds up in the 36th minute before Salah fired in first-time from Cody Gakpo’s pass four minutes later.

The result ended a three-match losing streak in all competitions, with a particular low point coming on April 4 after suffering a 0-4 thrashing at Manchester City in the FA Cup quarterfinals. Salah looked a shadow of himself in the defeat, failing to convert a penalty kick while notably lacking confidence throughout the match.

But after sitting for the entirety of Liverpool’s 0-2 first leg defeat at Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals earlier this week, the Egyptian looked notably fresher. While it was not his best performance, Salah performed playmaking duties adequately while finding the net.

The Reds are secure in fifth place on the league table following the result ahead of Tuesday’s second leg at home against PSG. Salah now has 11 goals and 9 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions this season.
